The Wine Cellars
Extract from the diary of Margaret Wilson (nee Francis)..... "1872: Commenced building of the new wine house........"
In 1877, at the height of wine production the vineyard's output was more than 3,000 gallons (13,500 litres) of wine. In March 2007, the Wine Shed at Douglas Vale was the venue for the release, by auction, of the first Douglas Vale vintage in almost 90 years! It was 50 bottles only, Isabella "Old Douglas Port" -'Limited' Collectors Release. Each bottle was numbered and presented with Certificate of Authenticity.
Construction of today's Wine Shed was completed in 2004. It is situated on the site of the original 'Wine House'. Future development at Douglas Vale will include re-construction of the Wine Cellars. These were originally located behind, and adjacent to the Wine Shed. Remnants of this structure, complete with convict bricks, can still be seen today!
The Wine Shed is now open for Wine Sales, Wine Tasting, and Functions; It is also available as an Exhibition Space for Art & Craft shows.
